Anyone Rhesus Negative?

Question

I’ve had a letter saying I’m blood type B Rhesus Negative, it isn’t making much sense only that i May have to have injections during pregnancy, anyone in same boat that could explain it more?

It just refers to blood type incompatibility with the child’s father. Because of that the baby could have a blood type that your body will try to reject/fight off. I had it with my third child and now 4th (different dad than the first two babies). It’s nothing to be worried about, you just need to let your dr know if you have any spotting and make sure you get the rhogam shots when they want you to so that everyone stays healthy. :)

I am B- as well and my partner is O+. I was a phlebotomist prior to pregnancy so I was well educated on blood. What I can tell you is RH negative blood doesn’t have a trait that RH positive blood has. Therefore if the daddy gave the positive trait to the baby (which you wouldn’t know until the baby is born) then that means the baby had a trait you don’t. If you didn’t know the way blood recipients work is if you are a negative blood type you can ONLY take RH negative, if you are a positive blood type you can take positive OR negative. So if your baby’s blood is positive and gets mixed with your blood, your body will build an antigen against that blood and it can potentially attack the fetus and kill it. The shot you receive blocks your body from creating that antigen. You receive it a few times because it only lasts a certain amount of time. Also if you have more kids in the future it’s important you get this shot or it will be very hard to conceive.

I'm O- and my husband is O+. This means that if the baby's blood is positive and it mixes with my blood, my body would create antibodies to attack that blood type as if it were a foreign invader. This is not a problem in the first pregnancy as your body will not have them made. The problem comes in successive pregnancies in which if you have the antibodies it may cause miscarriage. The Rhogam shot prevents your body from producing the antibodies even if your and the baby's blood mixes. A Rhogam shot is effective for 3 months so that's why you receive a shot at 28 weeks and at birth (they will test the baby's blood type before they give you the shot. If the baby is negative there is no need). Also if you have any bleeding before you receive the first shot you need to go in and will most likely get a shot at that point. 
My first is O+ so I received 2 shots and I don't have any antibodies made. I was sore for about a day afterwards but other than that had no issues when I got it. Hope this helps!
