Name reveal vs gender reveal?

Question

I’m hesitant to do a gender reveal because it poses so many gender stereotypes that  it just wouldn’t feel right to me. But I want to reveal something about the baby so fam and friends feels closer to the baby. I’m thinking we do a name reveal at the shower! Does imply the same/similar gender stereotypes?

Well, your baby is going to be born with a penis or a vagina and I do imagine you will be naming accordingly, at school and daycare they will be treated as such and that’s just how life is. Once they are at an age where they want to do something different they can. But right now it’s your son or your daughter, don’t be ashamed of that.

Are you naming your child something gender neutral? Because if not, sounds like it will be a gender reveal either way.

Unless your using a gender-neutral name, my guess is the reaction people give will still be to the gender rather than the name. Such as “Oh my gosh, it’s a girl/boy!!!!”

I agree with you completely. I still feel like with the name you’ll automatically get all the gender stuff anyway. It’s the first question people ask because its an easy question they can relate too. Not a bad thing, just depends on what you want

We did a gender reveal party. Mainly because we are moving soon and it was way to early for a baby shower. So our friends came over, ate lunch, drank pink and blue drinks, and we cut a cake 🍰. It was super low key and really just a reason for us to hangout and celebrate the baby before we move away. 
We aren’t sharing our name until after the baby is here. I don’t want the drama of people’s opinions, plus what if I change my mind we I meet here?

I can understand this. I had similar qualms but we did have a party with our friends, played lots of the silly games placing bets  about old wives tales and then had a cake with blue filling. On top it said “pink or blue we love you”. We revealed his name there too. People def felt more connected to the baby as a real person once he had a name. I don’t feel like I’m super obsessed with him “being a boy” I try to let him express who he is. He has dolls and I let him put makeup on when I do because he’s in that copy cat phase. But, the reality is society does treat him differently because he’s a boy than they would if he were a girl (as I learned when I took him out in a pink onesie one day). So I think I had a lot more to do with you than anything else. It will be a big part of your child’s life no matter when it’s revealed. 😏 it is fun to share.

Agree we had a girl & didnt want everything pink & princess just because it was a girl so we told people that....most listened but not all. I honestly think the whole gender reveal thing is stupid. I like the idea of just announcing @ your shower so people are forced to buy from your registry or just give $

Not having a big thing for gender but will be letting people know. Keeping the name to ourselves until they are born so we have something that's ours
