Tackling Misconceptions - Moderate Muslims

Xig • In the honourable words of Howard Moon - "I`m the fighter, you little tit-box."

This is something I've wanted to discuss ever since I joined Glow. But I've always been somewhat nervous to do so. Probably because I have a pretty strong view on the matter, and am genuinely unaware of other people's thoughts on it. I'm going to write a response to this, but will likely hold back on posting it for a while.

If you're unfamiliar, the term ‘moderate Muslim’ is the label some Muslims might carry, to somewhat bridge a gap between Muslims and non-Muslims, in the West. It suggests a group of Muslims who are very well-integrated into the western society and culture.

So if you will, please give the following questions some thought.

How would you define a moderate Muslim? What is meant by the term?

Is the concept of a moderate Muslim a positive or negative one, in regards to demonstrating Muslims in Western society?

Does the idea of a moderate Muslim aid or hinder the acceptance of Muslims in western society?

Would you personally identify as a moderate Muslim?

Please share any other thoughts, views and opinions you might have on the matter.
