Sweet angel baby

Vanessa

Nathan was born 9/9/18, 6 lbs 13 oz, 19.5 in long. He will be in the NICU for approx 5-7 more days. We find out if he gets to start eating (formula) today. I went to the hospital on Sat with contractions every 5 minutes, I was admitted at 4cm dilated. I was given pitocin about 6 hours later after no advancement, my water was broken at maybe 1 in the morning. About 13 hours later, I still had trouble dilating and pushed till I got to around 9.5, they pushed my last .5cm under & then it was really time to push. About an hour later, he was born.

But he was blue/purple. His chord was wrapped around his neck. He had a very low heart rate. The baby nurses worked with him for about a minute and a half before calling code NEO. A team of doctors & nurses rushed in. There was a lot of yelling. I broke down, I plugged my ears & hyperventilated with my OB finished getting my placenta out & stitching up a small 1-degree tear. My mom stood over me & made me breathe. After about 5-8 minutes, they determined he was ok to be taken upstairs to the NICU so my husband left with him. I had no idea what was going on but everyone said he was ok. I thought everyone was lying to me and I asked 5 different nurses if they were telling me the truth. It was the scariest day of my life and I am honestly traumatized. We learned that this is one of those freak things that just sometimes happens. But he has responded well to all tests & interventions they did at birth, he will hopefully be able to get some food in him today and his blood cultures will be back to determine if there’s any infection. Please cross your fingers for my little boy. Every nurse we’ve talked to has told us he’s going to be ok!

Just want to share my story with you all. You probably WILL NOT have this type of birth. This is not the norm. Our family happened to be affected by an accident but hopefully everything will be ok!

Good luck to everyone! You’re freaking rock stars.

Also. I had epidural but truth is...pushing him out was not that bad at all. Yes, it took an hour & there was definitely uncomfortable pressure with my OB & nurses using their fingers to guide him out...but TRUTHFULLY not terrible. A lot easier than I thought it would be! I hope that’s the case for you all as well.

Went to the hospital dilated to 4 @ 39 w & 1 day. He was born at 39w 2 d.
