The hardest, best advice I've ever had was to just stop. Stop begging, stop fighting, stop getting emotional about losing them. Just be happy. Live your life and see what happens. Confidence is sexy. You've told him what you want, but begging will push him away. 
If he's worth your time, things will get better. You can stay in touch, but don't keep pushing for the relationship. Either things will get better and you'll end up together, or you'll realize that he's not worth the time. It sounds counter productive, but it really works. I'm speaking from experience that it takes maturity and strength to step back, which is what you're trying to prove, but it also gives you clarity and perspective.
