Bearded dragon and babies!???

Update! Well it was a fun sleep over with Bowser but my husband and I decided it wasn’t worth the risk of infection and we returned the lizard 🦎🙁 I’m sure the store employees are all making fun of me right now because I started bawling my eyes out when I was returning him 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m freaking out right now. Like complete panic attack—-I have a 7 month old baby and I bought a baby bearded dragon today. A friend of mine said that it’s super dangerous to have a lizard around a child under 5 and that it can kill my baby because of salmonella!? I’ve been looking it up and I’ve found articles supporting her and others saying if you have good hygiene and wash your hands after handling it’ll be fine. Do I need to return Bowser? (Also I only took him out of the box for a SECOND while driving to snap this pic AND IM IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC)

Yes their mouths are filled with bacteria and could seriously infect a child if bitten

stop doing other stuff when driving besides driving. thats more of threat to the baby than the lizard. pay attention to the road.

My husband and I went to the natural history museum in LA this summer with our two 3 year olds. While there we went to an animal show where they brought out a large lizard. They invited all of the children up to pet the lizard, except for 5 years and under. They specifically said that it was because in a child so young, their immune systems aren't ready to handle the bacteria that can be on the reptile. It was the first that I'd ever heard of such a thing, but we decided to take their word for it.

Just keep it away from the baby. And wash your hands after handling it. Keep it's cage/tank clean as well.. my friend had a bearded dragon a couple years ago and when she was feeding him lettuce she wasn't paying attention and he accidentally bit her finger and her whole tip of her finger turned white and she couldn't feel it

Unless the baby has direct contact with him and isn’t cleaned afterward, there’s literally no concern. 
My son has been exposed to a ton of animals, never had a problem.

I had a iguana forever my kids loved him growing up. He used to ride on their backs when they crawled I just made them wash their hands it wasnt a big deal he just chilled never bit

Totally ridiculous, any pet or person for that matter can get a baby sick. I've had bearded dragons for many years and we always wash our hands after touching them. I have 3 kids and my niece and nephew, and multiple bearded dragons. All of mine have been great with kids. No one has gotten bitten. They are awesome pets!

I feel like it’s the same with any pet. You always take some kind of risks. If you search about dogs and cats it’s the same thing you still have to wash your hands

Just keep it away from baby and it’ll be fine. My cousin has one. And my son has never you had it, I made sure it’s always in the cage thing he has
