Stomach pain associated with constipation while pregnant

I'm having bad pain on the left side of my stomach. I haven't been able to go to the bathroom today so I'm assuming I'm backed up but why the pain? Not sure if I should take an exlax or go to the ER. I'd love input. Also im 17w 4d
