Does anyone elses doctors or midwives not check them for dilation?

I'm 37 weeks and my midwife hasn't checked me for dilation 😩 I see other ladies on here talking how many centimeters they're dilated so I was wondering if it's normal not to be checked at 37 weeks.

There is no benefit from checking and there is risk. I refused mine at 36w and probably will refuse until they have to check while in labor.

There isnt any reason to be checked. It just introduces bacteria which could cause an infection. Im 35 weeks, planning a home birth with my midwife and won't ever be checked

Mine does but I’m refusing it. It doesn’t tell me anything about when I’ll go into labor. I was 3cm for a month until I delivered my last baby.

It’s voluntary, so just ask. My practice typically waits until 38-39 weeks. Dilation doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have a baby anytime soon...

I know!! I’m 37 weeks today, and haven’t been checked. And I was even stripped down at my last appointment for GBS swab, and she still didn’t! And I don’t like to ask, so I didn’t, and now I regret it 😔

I personally don’t want to be checked. I’m going to opt out unless my midwife gives me a good reason to be checked.

Mine doesnt but checked while doing my GBS swab since I was concerned that I was leaking amniotic fluid & wanted to make sure I wasnt dilated yet

It’s common practice here in New Zealand that you are not checked for dilation until you are in labour 🙂

Mine won’t check it until I go into labor— they say it’s not an accurate way to predict anything leading up to that day!!
