Reusable nursing pads smell

If you use reusable nursing pads, how do you keep them from smelling? I usually collect them for a day or two (sometimes three) and then throw them in a cold water wash and tumble dry. I noticed that they still smelled like breast milk so I did a warm water wash to see if that would help, but it didn't.

Any suggestions?
