Update on Hunter: 27 week Preemie

Alantra🧜‍♀️ • Wife ❤ 1 son 💙 One on the way with a twin in heaven 💕

If anyone was following my son on my prior posts and wanted an update here ya go :) He's been very stable lately so I haven't made any updates since his last infection, I believe.

Hunter was born at 27 weeks 3 days via emergency c section weighing 2lbs 8oz and 13.75" long. I wasn't due until October 18th but he had other plans. He is in the NICU at a hospital close to 3 hours away from our home town. He was transferred hours after he was born.

Anyway, he will be 36 weeks gestational age on Thursday. (How far along pregnant I would be) and 2 months old on Saturday. He is doing very good! Taking all his feeds perfectly, good temperatures. He ended up getting a minor infection in his hand after removing an IV for a 3rd blood transfusion, which is being treated and isn't causing any complications.

He's still needing extra oxygen but because he will be 36 weeks GA (gestational age) on Thursday, he has 'outgrown' CPAP. But, he will be put on nasal cannulas until he no longer needs help. (the things on sick or older people's faces when they need oxygen) I was also informed if he is still on the cannulas by 38 weeks GA, he will most likely be going home on oxygen. This looks highly likely because he has not been able to get down to 21% (room air) He generally stays between 25 and 29%. Which isn't bad at all but not low enough to be completely off oxygen. When he gets put on the cannulas he will be able to bottle feed, then once they see he can swallow and breathe at the same time, he will be able to latch and breastfeed! He weighs 5lbs and is 16" long now. He got his second eye exam today which I haven't heard back from. I was asked to sign up for the bath class next Wednesday! Meaning I get to give him his first bath!! I also was asked to sign up for the discharge class next Thursday but, his dad has to attend as well so we may have to wait another week depending if he can take that day off with this little of a notice. He may be moved to a discharge pod next week :)
