Maternity leave, is 20 weeks too early ?

I left my job at 16 weeks. But, by left, I mean quit. I was waitressing and I couldn't take the stress on my mind or my changing body. Felt like it was healthiest for me and baby. Lucky my husband agrees/supports my decision.

I said yes, only because I was given 12 weeks unpaid.. but if you’re in a country that offers a year or something and can afford it - have at it! I would love to take maternity leave at 20 weeks!

I am going at 37 weeks, just so I get as much time with baby as possible. If you need to go so early due to medical reasons then thats different! Xx

I went on short term disability at 24 wks last time bc of complications. I wouldn’t call that maternity leave tho.

Well, seeing as you only get 12-16 weeks, unpaid in most places, yeah that’s way too early.

If you’re quitting your job then go for it. Or if it’s for medical reasons but to start maternity leave at 20 weeks I’m just not sure why you would. Earliest I would probably do it (if I was in a county that actually paid a nice long maternity leave) would probably be 36 when things start getting uncomfortable.

Yes, unless you live in a country where women get 6+ months of paid maternity leave (paradise 😍).

It’s completely up to you. If you feel like you need to leave now and you are financially able to then why not.
