36+5 birth story!

LONG POST:

Sitting here while DD is sleeping and thought I would share my birth story and to remind other women to go with their gut! On July 8 I woke up around 3 am and noticed that I was wet. I smelled it because it was getting closer to make sure it wasn’t my water (I know so gross). There wasn’t any sort of smell so I figured I must have been sweating! I got up to go to the bathroom and peed for what seemed like forever! I should have known it was my water but it was the middle of the night and I didn’t think about it. So back to bed I went! Around 8:30 that night I started to get some cramping so I decided to take a bath. My husband came in and I told him I thought I needed to go to the hospital because the cramping was every 3-5 mins lasting about 1 minute. He said “you’re fine. Goodnight I love you.”🙄 men. The whole time I’m texting my sister freaking out asking her what i should do. Around midnight we decide it’s time to go even if it’s s false alarm. I wake my husband up and he tells me he’s not going and to call him if I’m really in labor. 🙄🙄 sister picks me up and we head up there around 1 am. We get there and the nurse is being super rude I can only assume because she thinks it’s false labor as well. I tell them I was wet this morning. She doesn’t want to check to see if my water is broken but I insist they do. Doctor comes in and says “wait that’s a pool of water! You’re in labor!” I call my husband who takes his sweet time getting up there. They start pitocin around 6 am but her heart rate dropped. They gave me a pill to help move things along. Around 6pm that night my doctor finally comes in and checks me and noticed that there is a pocket of fluid under her head which is why I wasn’t dilating. She breaks that and starts pitocin again and then things really get moving! I got the god sent epidural around 10 and try to get some sleep. Through the night the nurse (the rude one who really changed once we found out I was in labor) wakes me up 3 times to tell me they have to turn down the pitocin because her heart rate kept dropping. Around 6 am Tuesday morning they check my blood pressure and to see how I’m dilated. My blood pressure reads 87/16. The nurse kept telling me that can’t be right. If it was I would probably be unconscious and keeps taking it, getting the same results. But I’m at a 10! They call NICU to come in because she was slightly premature. While we wait, we do a couple practice pushes. During that time her heart rate was dropping dangerously low so my doctor says “if you don’t get this baby out this contraction I’m cutting you open because we will lose her” NO PRESSURE ITS FINE. Thank God I got her out but she wasn’t breathing at first since the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck which was causing her heart rate to drop all those times. NICU finally comes in and gives us the ok! So after 51 hours of labor, and 15 minutes of pushing. My beautiful Emersyn made her very dramatic appearance at 6:43am on July 10th, 2018! Weighing 5lbs 8oz and 18 inches long!!💗💗

P.s. won’t be using the same doctor if we decide to have another after my water being broken that long, refusing a c-section, and not looking into why she was distress.
