What to do about my dog?

Brittney

Below is a picture of my sweet beagle mix. He is such a loving dog, and he does so well with our one-year old son!

BUT he has pooping/peeing problems inside of my apartment on the carpet. We’ve had him for about six months. And in these six months we’ve dealt with his potty issues. I take him out every two hours so to say. I’ve tried to reward him when using the bathroom outside, taking him outside every hour, putting his nose close to his pee/poop and telling him no, and even went as far as disciplining him by putting him in his cage. (HE LITERALLY CHEWED OUT OF HIS METAL CAGE)

For example, I woke up about 10 and was out walking him by 10:30. We were out there till about 11:15 and he peed multiple times and popped twice. I knew he was done because he always walks towards our apartment. Then, when I was making breakfast, I walk out to the living room and what do you know, a big aaa shit on my carpet!

This dog is driving me up the walls and I don’t know how much I can handle anymore. We cannot leave the house without locking him up and I feel terrible for it! But if I don’t, he will ruin the carpet. I love him to death but sometimes I feel like he’ll do much better if he had a yard to run outside with. I want to keep him, but I cannot afford to pay all damages he is doing to the carpet.

As sad as I’ll be, I really want to give him away. But not drop his off at the pound, I want to find a loving family with a good home for him. But, I know if I do, I’ll hear judgmental comments in the future if we get another dog.

Any advice?
