This is a complicated situation but I’ll try to make it as short as I can.

Last year in July, I applied for a job knowing it might take awhile because my husband has this job and it took him over a year. Everything was moving along into October and then there wasn’t anymore progress. April of this year rolled around and I still hadn’t heard anything. We decided to plan a trip to Ireland in October with our best friends. Everything is already paid for and planned, ready to go, and then this past Friday I get a call telling me that I got the job. The job starts three days before we were supposed to leave. Now, I absolutely need this job, it’s almost triple my salary. With the type of job it is, they hire a bunch of people at one time and you go through 8 weeks of training together. The next group of people to get hired might not get called for months. I love my best friend, and she’s so upset I can’t go. She’s happy I got the job, but thinks is should call back and see if there’s any possible way to push back my start date. What do you think? Would you call and ask something like that? I have such a fear that they are going to think I don’t want the job if I ask that question. It’s not the end of the world if I can’t go, but we were looking forward to it.
