Brain bleeds and shunts?

Our son was born at 30 weeks and had a stage 3 bleed at birth. He's now 33 weeks. He's being moved to another hospital today to be closely monitored by a neurologist. They're pretty sure he'll have to have a shunt put in. Has anyone had any experience with this? What should we expect? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I'm terrified and really dont have a lot to go on right now.

I just found out my baby has intraventricular hemmoraging (brain bleed). We found out last week when I got a fetal mri done (I am currently 21 weeks pregnant). The doctor said they can’t tell how bad it is until she is born, so I’m wondering if you guys can give me some info?

My daughter currently has the subgalial shunt, it is meant to be temporary but she has had hers since August 14th.  She will most likely have to have the VP shunt at some point.  She is doing great though and her neurosurgical team is pleased with her progress.  She came through the surgery great and has very little scaring.  She was born at 29weeks gestation and got the shunt exactly 2 weeks later.

The procedure doesnt even take an hour. It takes only about 20-30 minutes, what takes the longest is getting him prepped. They will cut him in tje shape of a half moon. Do you know if he is getting a subgial shunt or a vp shunt? A subgial shunt is temporary and only last about a month, a vp shunt goes in his brain & has a line that does allll the way down to the babies belly to empty to access spinal fluid into his andomen.
