When to take OPKs?

My cycle is irregular but has been 40-45 days the past 3 times I have had it since stopping the pill. I bought 10 OPKs and am wondering if I take them every other day if that will be enough or do I need to take them daily? I am planning to start two weeks past my last AF and do every other day until I see I ovulate. Just wondering what other experiences you ladies may have had and if you have any advice/recommendations for what works best! Thanks

Until you know your cycle you should test daily.  Once you start to see a second line that is almost as dark as the test line you should test at least twice daily to prevent missing the window.  When I think I hav a line that is just as dark as the control line then I will test with a clear digital as well to see if I can get a smile face on the test to verify that my OPK strips are telling me what I think they are saying (until you understand them it is best to add a digital test or three into the mix.  It is better to over test than to miss your window.
