What size/type of clothing will my newborn actually need?

Hi! I’m due November 25th! Can anyone give me some tips on what our little man will actually need when he’s born? What are your go-to items?

It’s hard to say because babies come in all shapes and sizes and some grow out of newborn clothing pretty quick. My newborns usually live in zip up sleep wear with the little feet. It’s easy to get on and off for frequent diapers changes. I only get a few outfits to go out in when they’re newborns. I tend to buy more 0-3 months clothing than newborn and go from there.

I live in the upper Midwest and our winters get cold as balls. For the first six months we have lots of footie sleepers, long pants, short- and long-sleeved onesies, and sweaters. We also have a couple of those warm body suit onesie things. I expect our kid will spend most of his/her time in footie sleepers so that is what I’ve bought the most of.

Our daughter was 10lbs at birth and she wore newborn clothes for 2 weeks. We moved on to 0-3 months very quickly. Hope this helps!

It all depends on your baby. My first born was 6 lbs 6 oz and was in newborn for almost 2 months so I’ve got a lot of NB this time. He was swimming in it when we first got him home so he had a lot of room to grow. He wore NB and 3M for the same amount of time so for us it is definitely worth having plenty of NB clothing, but for others it won’t be.

My first came out 9 1/2 pounds and fit NB for maybe 2 weeks but thankfully I had more 0-3/3m clothes. I think I had about 7 NB sleepers

My first I didn’t buy any newborn only 3 month bc he was a bigger baby. He would have grown out of them in a week. I’m bringing 3 month outfits with me to the hospital. I have some handy me down newborn outfits around this time but I didn’t buy any this time either.
