Your partner should not challenge you to the point that it’s toxic. Your partner should challenge you in a way that helps foster the growth of both individuals and the relationship. Because when you grow as a couple, life becomes easier together.

Both. Your SO should make life a bit easier in my opinion. By doing things such as supporting you through hard times, helping you when you need it etc 
But should also challenge you to be a better person too.

Honestly it depends what sort of person you are. Would you prefer someone easy going or can you deal with someone pushing you to do more. Both have pros and cons. For me I like that my partner helps me grow as a person by facing challenges with me, but he also knows when to back off and just go with the flow

Neither one of those options are what I would choose a partner for. There is more to it than that. Because you can easily and should have BOTH. You shouldn’t have to pick. You went shopping for produce.
