Advice on self defense?

So my boyfriend and I have been together for 4 years we have our own place we rent currently and know the landlord personally in the family so we get cheap rent every month about 600 for a 3 bedroom townhouse. We have no kids and we both work full time & just smoke tree.

Our neighbors dogs (4) ran loose and got out of there yard and broke down our front gate entering and immediately attacking and biting my boyfriend and our pitbull. My boyfriend was fighting for his life as he could hear the dogs above him injuring him on our property.

My boyfriend after being able to get up and fight them off went into the house putting our dog inside and grabbed my registered shot gun and shot fire at 1 dog of there's that died in self defense. Only 1 dog died on our property.

I need opinions asking for the family and personal views I don't need judgemental negative comments just advice!

Do you believe that my boyfriend should be charged at all? Yes I know the dog died but my bf was trying to defend himself. There are many complaints that there animals get out repeatedly.

The people across the street also lied in the police report saying my bf threatened there little kid which is a lie and another lie. He would never do that period.

What are your thoughts? Should be charged? Guilty or not guilty?
