Is a hot dog a sandwich? 🌭

This may sound like a silly question but my husband and I fiercely disagree on this. We’ve taken it to our friends and workplaces. We’ve found it’s pretty split and people tend to passionately disagree for some reason so I thought I’d put it out here to see what all of you think.

A hot is a hot dog and a sandwich is a sandwich. They are different things. 
If someone invited me over for sandwiches and served hot dogs I would be surprised.

This is actually very controversial, my husband is always having this fight with his coworkers. What constitutes a sandwich??? Is it two pieces of bread, with stuff in the middle? Is a taco a sandwich? Is a quesadilla a sandwich? Is a hotdog a sandwich? Is an open-faced sandwich a sandwich? They literally have this discussion once a week.

But this is called a hot dog but is actually a sausage (processed one) in a roll

And this is a sausage bap, which is also sausage (real one) in a roll but not a hot dog.

My dad and I were arguing about it and I looked up the definition of a sandwich and it said filling between two pieces of bread and since a hotdog is one piece of bread than it’s not a sandwich. 🤣 🌭 🥪
