How old is too old to still be breastfeeding?

I’m just looking for in your opinion or for your family, we can assume we all agree to each their own.

I have nursed to 3.5y twice, it’s such a gradual weaning. People that didn’t nurse or only nursed to a year or whatever, look at their three year olds and are like “omg I can’t imagine nursing them!” Well of course not... but when it’s something you do every day, you just don’t notice, you simply meet their needs and they grow older in the process. My children were never allowed to just walk up to me and nurse or pull on my shirt... I taught them manners just like they weren’t allowed to throw food at the table.

Once my daughter was walking and could pull my shirt down, I personally felt it was time to wean. 
I started weaning her at 12 months and was completely done nursing her at 15 months. I plan to do something similar with my next baby 😊

My goal was to BF until my maternity leave was over, then my goal was 6 months, then a year. Eventually we passed my daughter’s second birthday and she was still nursing a few times a day. We weaned a few months after that. I never thought I would want to nurse that long but I’m really glad I did.

I don’t really have an age limit.  It’s been different with different kids. Either they want to stop or I do and so we stop.

Ugh. Some of these comments are horrible. It is not weird to nurse a child over 2 or 3. And why would it be wierd for them to remember being nursed, thats an amazing thing.🙄 stop sexualizing breasfeeding, average weaning age is 2 to 7 years old. People get over it! That being said my daughter is 21 months old now and im nursing her still, nd im also pregnant. Hoping to not loose my supply as i want to go atleast to 2 if she chooses to wean. But if she doesnt ill probably be tandem nursing. Those are the best years of a babies life.

My LO is only 6 months, but my husband & I were talking the other dAy about how long I might nurse for.... we both remembered a conversation we’d had (before baby) during a movie about kids being “too old” like if they can walk up & unhook your bra that’s too old. In the movie the kid was like 5 & so I am saying this picturing a 5 year old, evidently my husband was picturing like a 2 year old. He was shocked when I said I’d probably nurse until 3 if LO wanted. For me 3 is when they can start forming long term memories & the thought of then having a memory of nursing is just too weird for me 😝. My SIL still nurses my niece who is a little over 2 at bedtime & 1st thing in the morning. I know my mom thinks it’s weird 🙄, but that seems totally normal to me. It’s not like I’m going to nurse my 2 year old 8 times a day, but bedtime & morning snuggles.... totally! I’ve also thought that after 3 or when he stops wanting to nurse, if I could I might pump once a day or something and give it to him in a cup instead of cows milk. It’s just so good for them, as long I can give it I will.

My daughter self weaned at 13 months and I ended up wearing my son at 18 months. Developmentally my son was pretty far behind due to a heart condition and open heart surgery at 2 months so he was pretty much developmentally the same age as my daughter when he was weaned.
