Lexapro - trouble reaching orgasm?

My boyfriend started taking Lexapro about three months ago for his anxiety and he is completely unable to orgasm at all (with me or even on his own.) Has anyone else experienced this? Does it wear off?

Yup- lexapro is an antidepressant in a category called SSRIs that a known side effect is sexual dysfunction- which can be erectile issues, decrease libido, or not being able to orgasm. Unfortunately it is a symptom that doesn’t seem to dissipate like other symptoms associated with SSRIs like nausea/diarrhea which tend to go away after a couple months.
If it is becoming an issue and problem on its own, your boyfriend might benefit from switching to another antidepressant like Wellbutrin which is a different category and one of the few antidepressants that doesn’t cause sexual dysfunction.
Long story short- totally typical side effect, unfortunately doesn’t go away, if a big issue- ask doctor to switch to a different drug.

Yes. I had this problem when I was on it last. I would never want sex (and I consider my sex drive average) and I couldn’t reach orgasm no matter how hard I tried. I’m not sure on what advice to give other than he should maybe discuss it with his mental health professional and see if they can find something that won’t affect his ability to reach orgasm.
