Abusive Father In Law

Long story short, my husband's father has a history of physically and emotionally abusing his family members and was twice sectioned.

He's still dominating, chauvinistic, loud, rude and undermines everyone - to their face and behind their back.

Lately, though, he's turned on me. Not only does my FIL make rude comments about our preparation for the baby, like how he "can't believe we don't have a car", but also how

he's CONVINCED our baby is a boy but "of course, a girl would be just as good" (OFC a girl would be just as good, arsehole).

According to my PHYSIOTHERAPIST FIL, I'll never improve my level of my husband's language unless I do what my FIL suggests.

These are just a few in a long list of intrusive comments that are driving me crazy. I'm fed up of his petty comments designed to undermine us as a family. We've tried telling him to back off, but he's incapable of seeing that for what it is, and instead turns it in to a huge thing, bringing up how my husband should be grateful to him for bringing him up etc.

My question is: Has anyone ever had/ got a family member like this? How do you keep them at arm's length without destroying your family?
