FSH levels?

Michelle, you might know this. What is FSH supposed to be? Got my day 4 results and it was 9.34 and worried that it’s high. Have my HSG Friday and nervous for that!

Hey Kimberly...I think that’s normal but on the higher side (especially for your age because you’re young...still in your 20s right?).  You want to be under 10 but ideally a lot lower than that.  My RE wasn’t worried when I was in the 9’s but his nurse practitioner who I saw said it was higher than she would like for my age.  Pretty much when you get older you’re FSH naturally gets higher (the FSH is what stimulates your ovaries to work and if you have higher numbers it means your ovaries need more stimulation).  The good thing is that your FSH can change and I think it could change from cycle to cycle.  I started with a FSH in the 9’s and now I’m down in the 7’s...I don’t know how it has lowered though...maybe from my thyroid medicine?  I’m not sure.  I think you should ask your doctor as many questions as you have about it...they may tell you it’s normal but I think it’s high normal.  Also ask if there’s a way it can be lowered.
Good luck with your HSG on Friday!  Let me know how it goes.  Take your 600 or 800mg of ibuprofen!  Hopefully you won’t have any blockages!  At least you are getting some answers with things and you can maybe figure out what is going on.  Make sure you ask about your short LP!

Talked to doctor— she wants me to keep trying and see how the HSG goes. She isn’t going to put me on meds for now, but I might start reaching out to an RE to see what that entails.
