October is Down syndrome awareness month

Jess

October is the best: the leaves change color, the holidays begin, and it’s Down syndrome awareness month! Every year since Will was born I use my social media to share about life with Down syndrome, and share some truth and love. This year I started with a question to my friends and family: What questions do you have about Down syndrome? After four and a half years, I certainly don’t know everything, but I’m happy to share about my experiences. In my classes, I’m being extra-inclusive with activities. In advisory students are advertising for an October Awareness theme of their choice, and in my French classes I’m more intentionally choosing images of people with a variety of abilities.

I hope that if any of you have questions about raising a child with Down syndrome that you are willing to ask them, if not to me than to someone immersed in the world. Happy October!
