Primary & Secondary insurance

Hey! Currently I am covered under my husbands insurance plan. I am a type 1 Diabetic, and under his plan my scripts are much lower in cost. His plan does cover fertility, however, it is with Progyny and basically it will cover either 1 round of IVF or 4 IUI’s/timed intercourse.

I am considering on adding my insurance during open enrollment that would be my primary and his would be secondary. I am considering this because of the fertility benefit mine has, which is $15,000 lifetime. This seems to be a better fit since I am just starting my fertility journey after a year of trying and just being diagnosed with PCOS.

Does anyone have any experience with having a primary and secondary insurance? Also, how does it work for prescriptions? The cost of prescriptions are much lower on his plan over mine. Any advice/tips would be so helpful! Not sure if it is better for me to suck up the prescription costs and only have my insurance or having his insurance as the secondary. Thanks!
