How can I pump more milk?

Question

I’m pumping multiple times a day and get somewhere between 1-2oz each time, how can I increase this? I’m only 9 days postpartum so trying not to get too discouraged but these small amounts really only top baby up between her formula feeds which are 4oz each. When trying to breastfeed she would feed for 2 hours and still want a bottle after so I decided to start pumping to try and get a better idea of how much she’s getting

Couple things here. Unfortunately, pumping doesn’t give you a good idea of how much the baby was really getting. Babies are much more efficient/effective at removing milk than the pump. The feeding for two hours is called cluster feeding. It happens often right after baby is born as they establish your supply. It can happen later too when they go through growth spurts. Lastly, it can take a couple weeks for your supply to fully come in and normalize. Just food for thought here.
In terms of advice - try pumping at night and in the early morning. That is when your body produces the most milk and signals the breasts to increase production. Breastfeeding is a supply and demand sort of system. You want to pump just as often as your baby would actually eat. Another tip/trick is to latch the baby on one side and pump on the other. You typically get a much better let down and can pump more milk with this method. Anyway, best of luck! Hope you can find something useful here! 😊

I agree with Emma. Also you can try massaging your breasts while pumping (like pushing the milk out sort of).
