How did you crate train your dog?

Will he eventually stop crying and learn this is his spot? He went for a run, had breakfast, pooped and peed, he was going to take a nap (not in his spot).. I quietly picked him up and put him in there and gave my command word.. and he is losing his mind..

Let him cry it out. We also made the crate as small as possible, and placed blankets over it to make it feel like a den. Continue putting him in there every time he falls asleep for a nap, eventually they learn that’s their sleeping spot.

I let mine cry it out. It only took a couple of days but I used to cover her crate with a blanket to keep it dark

My dog is a massive people-dog, so if she knew I was around and she was in her crate, she cried. I tried everything— putting bedding in there, giving her a treat when she got in, cover the crate with a blanket. Nope— she just wanted to be near me. She did this the entire time I crated her (about 2.5 years). Eventually at night she would quiet down once she couldn’t hear me anymore but as soon as she heard me again she’d whine.
Once she was old enough that I trusted she wouldn’t misbehave while I was out of sight, I just stopped crating her. That took a while to get there because my stubborn ass dog would not fully potty train til she was over 2.

We kinda did the cry-it-out. It sucked for awhile, but he loves his crate now and goes in it on his own. Our dog is in one of two places (if he’s not snuggling us): in his crate with the door open, or sunbathing by the back door 🐕

I would put treats in the crate for him to find to make it more positive, but he has always liked his crate.

Ugh I honestly gave up. My puppy had SEVERE separation anxiety and he would bark and whine like crazy if I even went out of his sight. I had school and work when i had him, so it was awful to leave him there barking for hours. My sisters would watch him and they said he’d bark the ENTIRE 7 hours I was at school or however long my work shift was. Since I lived with my mom when I had him, she got rid of him bc she was so tired of him constantly barking 😢
