red book?

so I was speaking to my sister and she asked if I've got my red book. this is.my first baby and I know what a red book is but she said you get it off the health visitor...she came and went and still not got it. I am wondering if things have changed since my niece was born 7 years ago. does midwife give it now? I'm 36+5.

You get it when your baby is born. I got mine in the hospital when my daughter was born

You do normally get it from your health visitor. I had my first in 2017 and I got the red book at the appointment with her way before baby came.
I just got my letter for my visit with the health visitor for my 2nd baby and it does say in the letter you will be given your red book. 
I would ring them and double check as it’s not normally something the community midwife have stock of. 
However when I was in hospital the first time they did ask if I had been given my red book so I assume they have stock at hospital if your health visitor forgot.

I think it depends on the hospital and antenatal care team you are assigned too - I had a letter saying I have a HV appointment on 6th November and they will give me the red book then 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ll be 30+4 by then.
