Would you enroll your child into a boarding school?

I went to boarding school as a teen. I loved it! But many didn’t have the same experience

No, I had a child to raise them, not to ship them off for somebody else to care for.

Probably not, but it depends on the situation. How old the child is? Is it to help with behavior problems? Is it a prestigious school and the child is very intelligent so it would benefit them in the long run? Is it because I can’t take care of the child for some reason out of my control? Is the child in danger?

If they are out of control and I feel that is the last resort type thing. Like Im scared for their future so they need help.

This is long winded but; My brother went to boarding school, but I chose not to. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with boarding schools, it’s just personal choice, my brother loved it and he always looks back it at as the best years of his life. But I didn’t want to be away from family and friends and only see them at half terms/summer holidays, I also wanted to be able to do things outside of school in normal places like the movies, shopping centres,restaurants rather than just the school grounds (the school grounds were absolutely huge but that’s besides the point). There’s lots of good things about them as well though - tons and tons of extracurricular/sports activities which you end up doing loads of in your spare time, like seriously most of the students there did a sport or some sort of club religiously the whole time they were there. All these go on your CV. You spend 95% of your school life at school, there’s a mandatory 2 hours of homework and study time ‘after school hours’ that you get disciplined for if you don’t do, and your parents pay for boarding school and they know that, so nearly everyone ends up getting really good grades. There’s hardly any bullying going on, everyone’s really close so bullying just didn’t really happen, I’m sure there was some but nowhere near as much as public/my school. However considering my brother spent 7 years of his life away from us, after school of course he got a job on a boat, abroad, away from us again and he’s been like that for 6 years now, so we don’t really have a close relationship anymore. And although I only got average grades at my school I would of rather got that than spend all that time away from my family. With these pros and cons I still probably wouldn’t personally offer boarding school to my kids, simply because I want to spend those 5-7 years of their lives without them - time that I’ll never get back. They might not be able to settle back into their hometown after, making it difficult to have a close relationship with them after, something that always bothers my parents nowadays.  So nah after the experience of a sibling going to boarding school, my children will just go to a perfectly normal public school.
