I wore a robe that said bride and a tank top and shorts under it

I personally think either of those options would be fine. Whatever you choose to wear shouldn’t impact the MUA’s ability to achieve your desired look. 
The thing that does matter is getting your top off after you’ve had your hair and makeup done without spoiling it. 
I’ve personally bought some ivory satin pyjamas to wear which has a wrap top so I don’t need to pull it over my head but don’t have to worry about the buttons.
