Is it unfair to tell white people that they're not allowed to wear a certain hair style if it was originally an African American style?

I dont believe it's fair to tell people what hair styles they should or shouldn't wear because a different culture "owns" it. What do you think? Do you think it's fair to tell a white person that white people should be prohibited from wearing dreads  since it's apparently owned by black cultures?

Wear what you want, just understand that what we do with out hair isn’t meant for everybody’s hair type and can lead to alopecia. 
Also understand that the only reason why this is a topic is because someone made it a trend and didn’t give us credit as we are still judged by our appearances when “Becky” is not.

Dreads aren’t really owned by black culture. Dreads were originally started in India and Egypt. Many African Americans wear them today. White people should be able to wear them too. Honestly I don’t understand why anyone would really want to wear dreads because most people struggle to take care of them properly. But this is America we are a melting pot of cultures things shouldn’t be owned by just one culture.

Here is my White Husband’s summation- 
Do you care that people may look at you and think you are racist? 
- if yes- don’t wear hairstyles that are traditionally from another culture.
- if no - then do it and realize you are racist and don’t care.

I say if you have a well done style and take the time to acknowledge that it is a style from another culture that has certain traditions and give them the credits. It can be a reasonable choice. 
If you just wear a style and it looks bad or don’t do the work to give credit to others. Then it is cultural appropriation and racism.

I don’t think it’s ok for white people to wear traditionally black hairstyles. It’s cultural appropriation and not cool. It contributes to a double standard that is tied to hundreds of years of racism. Black women have been told for decades that their hair is unprofessional and that their can’t wear certain hairstyles in polite society or the workplace. By wearing a hairstyle that black women in the past have been told they can’t wear, you are contributing to a double standard that persecuted black women for years for wearing the same hairstyles that are currently in fashion. It’s not really a matter of one culture “owning” a certain hairstyle, it’s about white people not acknowledging the history of racism that contributes to them being allowed to wear it.

I think you should wear what you want without acting like a certain race/culture/religion owns something. If you like it you like it. If other people dont, they dont. But I think it's clear to be modest about it and not go about it in a manner that's disrespectful. Other than that, wear what you want
