Do I take the dog....?

Question

I'm in an abusive relationship. About 4 months ago, my boyfriend bought me a $2000 dog. He bought himself one too. Everytime we fight, he threatens to sell mine because he knows how much I love him. Only when we fight, does it become "his". He has never even fed either one of them. They are solely my responsibility. 
If I leave, do I have any rights to take the dog? The papers haven't been turned in so the only thing he has on the dog is whatever paperwork he filed out with the breeder. This dog is my baby :( I know if I leave, he will just sell him anyway. Plus, if I leave, I'm going into hiding... What do you think?
Edited to add: I am on all the vet papers, hes only listed as an emergency contact. I may can find the papers, if I'm not mistaken, they have to be filed through something anyway. I mean... If I leave, I'm taking his unborn child so he is already going to be mad (which is why I have a safe place in line). The dog has major money potential because of his breeding and what he will produce, so it will be a bigger loss to him than 2 grand. He plans on breeding him later.
Could there be any consequences, like.... would I be breaking any laws? I dont want to get in any trouble :(

Honestly, I’d pack up my shit and move while he’s not home and take the dog. If it was a gift for you, it’s yours. No court is going to make you give it back, especially if he is abusive. I’d also be sure to grab those papers and send them in with your name. This guy sounds like a jerk and if you leave that dog, you’re condemning it to either being neglected, abused, or sold to anyone he can get to buy it.

Do you have any paperwork leading the dogs to you? Like your name on a vet invoice? Keep that and find the sellers info or receipt from when he was bought. Any proof he was gifted to you? 
Honestly I’d take the dog if he was a gift then he belongs to you. 
I would go as far as to make sure the sob didn’t have the right papers before I left. 
Also keep recipients of all the food you bought as well.

Make him send you a text where he says the dog is yours. Like send him a text that says “thank you so much for my dog is he best gift you’ve given me” and hopefully he will reply in agreement. Take a screen shot (make sure it shows his phone number) save it and use any other paper work (vet, microchip etc) keep those records. Get a vaccination record from the vet with your name on it. And leave.

Make sure you get some type of proof saying the dog was a gift or he can take you to court and get the dog back since he did pay for both

Take both dogs, otherwise he’ll just use it to get to you. Take Any papers for the dogs with you. Take them to a vet under your name for documentation. You can get them microchipped as well. I highly doubt he will take you to court, especially if you go no contact and leave while he is at work.
