took my pill late?

i usually take my bc at 8pm but i forgot and woke up in the middle of the night and took it at 4am. i know i still take my pill tonight normal time so i take 2 in one day, but am i still protected? can someone please explain to me thank you

If ur on a combination pill, then yes ur still protected, just a little less. Being more than 2 hours late with combination pills is typical use & gives u 91%-92% effectiveness/protection (compared to 99.7% with perfect use). If ur on a mini/progestin only pill, which are more time sensitive, then no ur not protected & need to use a backup for at least 48 hours.

I’m sorry but that girl that commented is just not correct... If you’re on the combination birth control pill and if you take it every single day and do not miss any days you are 99% protected. Do some research, if anything 3 hours after your normal time MAY affect it
but honestly there’s been tons of research saying if you at least take it everyday you’re fine.
