Natural birth or epidural??? I can’t decide!! Feedback??!

My first child, Nora Lynn is due to arrive in 2.5 weeks and she is head down in the right spot! My mom thinks I can do this without and epidural because she had my brother and I without any meds. She and I are very much alike and I feel strong like her but I’m terrified of the pain from the tearing!!! At the same time, I would love to have a natural birth if possible. Moms who didn’t have any meds...I need some more convincing and feedback of the benefits from it!! 💜

I had an epidural with the first three and no medication for my last two. There is nothing wrong with needing medication, but for me for this baby it will be medication free as well as it has been my best recoveries. The pain went away as soon as baby was out and I was able to get up and walk around and care for my baby with out help. With my epidural I had problem with constipation afterwards that I didn't have with my non medicated births. I also couldn't tell when I needed to push with my epidural births. I felt more in control and in tune with my body during my non medicated births.

My story is opposite of many comments. With my last one (#4) I went into it thinking I’d get an epidural like first three kids but it all went so fast that there was no time for pain meds. None of my first three deliveries were difficult, but the recovery and the euphoria after the birth of my last was amazing. I delivered at a hospital that does the golden hour, so my baby was put right on my chest even before being cleaned up and was nursing within a minute of being born. I’m pregnant with my fifth and plan on sticking with it (there was definitely more pain going drug free) because it’s worth it afterward.

I planned on having a natural birth but wound up having to get an epidural because I was induced.

I had an unmediated induced labor and birth last August. it was a wonderful experience for me! There where moments that were very intense, I def felt out of body moments and some pains that were beyond anything expected (like how could you know until you know, right?) the moment he came out the pain was gone and joy filled me up. For me it was worth the work and I did not tear. I had a quick recovery! I don’t regret a moment of it and will do it again in April. You can do it momma, we are made to do it.

My plan was to go natural with my first and I made it almost the whole way but had to be induced and the pitocin was pushed to fast and I ended up getting an epidural. I am planning again to go for a natural birth but I know the other pain meds they offer just don't work for me so if it comes to it I won't say no to another epidural. Good luck and remember every woman is different and has different experiences. Do what is best for you and trust your instincts.

I had a spinal block with my last one, and it was great! I could still feel what I needed to do while not being in as much pain. A dream compared to getting the epidural with my first, where I couldn't feel anything below my waist.
The only catch is, you have to push baby out before it wears off because you can't get an upper or other pain meds on top of it.

I was open to no meds but then I went a week overdue and three days of them trying to induce. The pain of three days of contractions coupled with having to pee every twenty minutes became unbearable. When I got dilated enough and they asked me if I would want it, I took it just so that I could have a catheter 🙆

I planned on natural and after 12 hours of excruciating pain, got an epidural.  It was the best decision for me, and I was able to enjoy the rest of my daughters birth. I plan on getting one with my son.  Everyone is different, so do whatever you feel you need.  It’s all about you and your baby. :-) good luck!

I had an epi with all 3.  My first I had planned on no drugs but I had the worst back labor.  They wanted me to walk to progress my labor, which I lasted not even 15 minutes because I was in so much pain.  So, after thy labor I got the epi right away.

So my birth plan my entire pregnancy was I was going to have a natural birth, my everyone in my family did naturally births, my grandmother, mom, and aunts and a lot were home births too. So I was convinced I could do it. I have a super high pain tolerance and women do it all the freaking time (power to you mommas!) but when I ended up in labor it happened SO fast I went from 2 cm to 7cm in like 2 hours if that and I was having all back labor. I was literally passing out in between my contractions which were 2 - 1 minutes apart. So I quickly decided to get an epidural and let me tell you I was in heaven. It’s not drugging you so you’re loopy it just takes the pain away. I honestly feel like hey if we can make birthing experience less painful why not try it? I will definitely be getting an epidural with my next baby. Bottom line is it’s up to you no matter what.
