Financial Advice?

My husband and I are starting to struggle with money. We have been fine up until now, but as the saying goes in Forrest Gump, shit happens.

We have about $2200 in bills every month (that’s including groceries and gas which I include in bills because it’s necessary). We only bring in about $2600-$2800 depending on how many hours I get at work, and how much my husband is able to get overtime for.

Part of the total bills due above is a $5000/5 year loan we JUST got to fix our air conditioner because it quit on us when it was 105 degrees outside. Well our air conditioner bit the dust and the company who installed it says the piece isn’t included in the warranty (we had a lawyer look at the contract and they are right, unfortunately). So we basically paid $5000 for nothing and have a $200 payment a month for nothing. I know, life happens, but give me a break!

So I’m also in school, and only have 1 semester left. I’ve been putting it off because we can’t go without my income and with the program I am in, I can’t work more than 15-20 hours and go to school at the same time. I work part time, usually 30 hours a week. My husband has a good job, but doesn’t make the best of money since he doesn’t have a degree either.

Any advice as to what the hell to do to save money? We have 1 credit card that we owe on for furniture we bought in March, but no other “bills” are negotiable in whether or not we can do without. It’s either internet for school, electric, water, trash, house payment, car payment, car insurance, house insurance, student loans for my husband, etc.

ANY ADVICE IS WELCOME. We aren’t struggling yet, but my biggest fear in our marriage is money problems so I want to take all the precautions now, so that we can avoid the problems. Thanks guys!
