Should friends come on our first date??

I started talking to this guy from my uni but we’ve never seen each other on campus. We found out that we have mutual friends. I have terrible anxiety and want my friends for moral support but I also need to be independent and grow up. Should we bring friends on our first date (we’re just getting coffee) or should our first meeting be a little more personal?

I mean you could day where you are going but tell them a time thats half an hour later than your actual date time. That way if they turn up you’ve already had a bit of time to talk with your date

If you feel anxious for a date you could meet up with a friend first for moral support and they can get you feeling relaxed and excited before you meet up for your date. :)

My friend met a guy on this dating app and he came all the way from a different state just to meet her. She asked me and my husband if we would go with her so we all went out to dinner with her and this guy she met online... talk about awkward!! Lol! But we totally did that because she asked, and because we care about her and want to make sure that she's safe. She's like a little sister to me to be honest. I took pictures of his license plate when he wasn't looking just in case she went missing afterwards because I still didn't have a very good feeling about this guy, but she was going to be leaving with him after dinner. But that's just me... Little did we know... 🙄She eventually married him and then we found out he was abusing her. I was right... I had a feeling he was rushing way too fast for some reason, and that his promises were too good to be true, plus he lied about what he did for a living from the get go. They're divorced now. Thank goodness!! But still... I personally think that it's in anyone's best interest to have someone there that you know when you go to meet someone you met online, or a blind date because you just never know. They could very well try to hurt you. So everyone should be safe. Have some type of back up plan. If you don't feel comfortable having your friends right there with you, ask them to be discreet, sat at a different table, just have them to be mindful, ask that they don't stare and gawk at you the whole time. Or take a picture of their license plate and a good description of the vehicle they're driving. Kinda like I did! Lol! It was just in case she went missing, so I could give the police enough information that might help them find her if need be. So yeah... take some friends, tell someone where you're going, and who you're going to be with. These are things that could just save your life in an emergency situation.

If you’re really anxious make it a group thing that way you’re both still meeting chatting etc. You just have a few buffers around you guys.

I feel like if you brought friends on the first date, it will ease a lot of tension. Meeting someone for the first time can be really stressful and the company of your friends can be really comforting. The second or third date can be a little more personal. Good luck babes !! 💓
