Too similar to SILs babies name?

So I love the name Callaghan for a boy or girl. It is my mother’s maiden name. But my SIL has a son named Calan Cal for short. If I had a girl I would nickname her Cali and for a boy I guess there is no other nickname. Han? Trying too hard? lol HELP!!

Yea, it's really similar. Probably gonna get confusing for the family too. How does your sil feel about it? We had to pick a different name because my sil literally wanted to share the same family name and that was a no-go for me.

Yeah its too similar. The only save here is that it's your mom's maiden name so you're not stealing for a boy name. But I wouldn't do Cali for a girl with them calling him Cal. 
My sons name is Shai. I had him first, she didn't get pregnant until after he was born. My SIL (husband's sister) named her son Shia. No family significance. People think it's weird. Even her father once whispered to me "she couldn't pick a different name?" 
But if you'd rather have your mom's name and don't care what others think, then it's ultimately your choice.

Perhaps for a middle name instead? It was actual a tradition in my moms family for them to pass down the mothers maiden name as a middle name.

My sisters son is named Ryder, my son is Raidyn. If she has another boy, she wants to name him Coby, if I ever have another boy, I want to name him Corbyn. 🤷🏼‍♀️ however, we knew about this and talk about this regularly and are both ok with it. Neither of us are expecting lol.

My oldest son's name is Ethan. A year later, my brother named his son Edan. They both have the same middle name and last name starts with the same letter... It's so annoying when they are together.

My parents and my dad's brothers' wives all had a baby within two weeks of each other. Without collaborating at all, the three babies were named Kyla, Kyle, and Kaitlyn. Nobody had any issue or trouble with the names being similar.
