My Super Easy Labor and Delivery!

Marissa

When I was pregnant and thought of how my labor and delivery would go, it was nothing like I imagined. I imagined myself screaming in the passenger seat, on the way to the hospital, the delivery room being crazy and hectic.. and it just wasn't. (Which I am extremely thankful for.) I had a pretty easy pregnancy, besides all of the normal tolls pregnancy takes on you. I woke up on my due date (October 11th) thinking, "Well, she hasn't come yet.. she'll never be here." It felt like such a long wait and I really thought I would have to be induced. I went to my 40 week appt. where we set up a date to be induced, which would have been tomorrow! At the end of my appointment she did a membrane sweep and I felt a pop and all of a sudden everything was soaked. It's true when they say it feels like you're peeing yourself. My doctor said "Well, I guess you won't be getting induced, your water broke!" I left there, went home and did some last minute preparing and waited for my fiancé to get home. I was 5 cm dilated but still wasnt having painful contractions yet. We got to the hospital, I was admitted and after a couple hours they started pitocin. Once the pitocin was turned up I really started feeling the contractions and asked for the epidural. This was the worst part for me. Trying to sit still while having contraction after contraction and not being able to move. When he shoved the numbing needle in I literally jumped, and then just started sobbing. I think it scared me more than anything. Once I had the epidural we all just hung out in the delivery room. Everyone was falling asleep but I was watching a movie and started feeling so much pressure right on my butthole, lol. I told my nurse and all of sudden they started getting everything ready. They never checked my cervix leading up to this point so I was thinking "This can't be it, i'm not even that dilated." Then the doctor came in, checked me and said "You're at 10, we can start pushing." My mom was still on her way and I waited for her as long as I could but the baby's heartbeat started dropping so I had to push. My mom walked in right as I was pushing her head out. At 2:03 am on October 12th, after only pushing 13 minutes, Hadley Delores Hess was born! She was 7 pounds even, 20 1/4 inches long and has a head full of hair!! We are so in love with her!!
