Timing contractions ?

I feel like I have no idea how to time these... FTM here. Woke up to cramping and what I believe to be contractions. However, it’s more like a constant wave of pain and I can’t really figure out when they start/stop. Any advice? 😐

I was having long waves of pain in the beginning and couldn’t tell when the started and ended and theeeen I had real contractions and I could tell immediately! They actually stopped and started and I was able to track them on an app. Once they’re consistent and they don’t go away with water or moving then try to start tracking them.
