Baby isn’t very sweet

My son turned 1 on September 22 and he’s very independent. He’s a great sleeper and a great eater and he’s always happy, but he’s not sweet at all! I love him with all my heart, but when I try to cuddle with him he pushes me away unless he’s extremely tired. If I put my face near him he smacks my face and pulls my hair. He likes to be near me (or on top of me) when I’m on the floor, but he is not gentle at all. When I tell him “no” he smiles at me or says “Ah!”. How can I teach him to be more gentle? My husband and I would love more kids, but right now I’m actually worried about how he would be around an infant.😕
