Terrified of meningitis
My son is about to be 5 weeks old. Today he randomly got a little bit cranky for about 2 hours. He wasn't too bad. He's still been eating & having good amount of diapers. I figured he just had an upset stomach and was overly tired, but I checked his temperature anyways. It ended up being 100.1 rectally. So I called the oncall dr at the hospital & he said that I needed to subtract a degree from that, so 99.1 technically wouldn't be a fever & if he's eating it's reassuring. So I waited an hour and checked it again and then it was 99.3, 98.3 if I subtract a degree. My question is: if he was just hot could it affect his temperature? He did feel warm to the touch to his entire body, so I pulled off the little bit of clothes he had on. And if not, what else would cause his temperature to fluctuate so quickly? I questioned if my thermometer was any good. Sometimes i get a very different reading when I take it multiple times or get the same readings each time. I am very paranoid about him getting meningitis or something else that could be life threatening and I don't act quick enough /:
