Grandparents over stepping 😫😫

So, my mom lives about 45 mins away. My step father works 5 minutes away from my home. They come to my city often but never stop by to see my son. Until August they hadn’t seen him in 2 years. We do phone calls and texts that’s it.

Well today she sends me a text with a expensive toy asking if my son would like that for Christmas. My son is 7 and is not responsible enough for the dirt bike that was sent. I explained to her that he wasn’t responsible enough for that right now. She got mad!

She is always trying to out do us on Christmas. Since we can’t take credit for Santa gifts, we get him smaller things from us. She always says “look what mamaw got you!” It makes me feel like shit and like what we (Santa) got wasn’t good enough even if it was $400 bucks!

So anyway I told her he’d rather her presence than presents. She didn’t like that. Not to mention my sister and her 4 children live with my mother and she is constantly saying how she doesn’t have money due to my sisters kids. Well why would you spend $200 on my son and only $50 on the other kids. It doesn’t seem right. I told her leave the more expensive and bigger things to his parents.

But now my mom is mad at me and idk what to do about it. I don’t like upsetting her but my God. My husband and I are his parent. She already makes me mad bc she doesn’t want anything to do with my 3 year old. Just the 7 year old. She has never even met my 3 year old! Just aggravation.

Anyone else have a parent that tries to overstep you and your rules??
