When I was 12 I was walking the mall and there was a group of adults handing out papers to be a model and a lady walked up to me and I got excited about it and my mom grabbed me and started running saying no thanks . I asked my mom why not and she said that it’s not professional of them to ask people around the mall to be models. 
It makes sense now Bc I’m 16 and it seems strange

This actually happened to my bosses daugher. They approached her like this and rounded up all the girls and took them to a hotel room across from the mall. Her mom had a location tracker on her and found them all drugged up and unconcious about to be sold for sex. It was the hardest thing ive ever had to listen too. Her daughter unfortunately was so out of it it affects her till this day. She says she hears voices coming to get her and barely sleeps. Shit is very real and i never thought about it until i heard this happening in my city.

Possibly. When I was a kid I went all out with my goth style and one day I had a guy in a business suit with a briefcase come up to me in the mall when I was  sitting in front of Hot Topic and handed me a card for goth/alt modeling. I told my mom and we looked it up online and it was legit but we both still thought it was so weird that some business guy would come up to a young teen like this especially because the models on the website were way older than me. As I got older the more I thought about it I am so glad I was in an area with lots of people and I didn't try to set up an interview or something because it totally seemed like it could have ended up a trafficking incident.

That sounds like something called Barbizon which is totally legit. Barbizon will hand out flyers or flag girls down in the mall literally all the time. Then tells them what Hotel to go to and it's a panel of judges in a Conference room. The kids/teens obviously go with parents and the parents can be in the room.
However this might not be that, but I wouldn't count your eggs before they hatch. You'll never know for sure if it was an actual company or not.
