To make it clear the relationship with his ex wasn't idyllic at all and was purely about sex at the end (which wasnt as enjoyable to him 'cause she had some masochistic inclinations which made him uncomfortable) + she was very childish according to him. Despite all this he still is in love with her even tho he doesn't really want to get back together because it gave him some emotional trauma (she made him believe it was his fault that her ex is still chasing her and beat her).
