Medium rare steaks??!

I looooove my meat, and I’ve been craving a juicy steak.  My man got us some steaks to grill tonight and I was wondering if it’s safe to eat a medium rare steak while pregnant?? I really don’t like well done steak at all.  This is my first pregnancy and I’m only 4-5 weeks so I haven’t even had my first checkup or ultrasound to ask a doctor.

Any time you eat meat that isn’t fully cooked there is going to be some element of risk. That said, I only eat my steak medium rare and have never had an issue. It’s totally up to you what you’re comfortable with! You’re no more likely to get sick from undercooked meat now that you’re pregnant, it’s just that foodborne illnesses can be more dangerous for you if you were to get one.

Cooking meat like ground beef longer is more important than a steak bc of the higher risk of it having listeria.  Eating medium or less cooked steaks poses a risk for food poisoning but like some of the other women said it’s usually not a direct threat to the fetus. It’s the same risk as if you weren’t pregnant.    More important that processed meats (higher risk for listeria) are cooked thoroughly.  Also to someone else’s point you can get listeria from vegetables and other random foods too so it really comes down to what you feel comfortable with.

I've eaten all my steaks medium through both pregnancies. You might as well throw it in the garbage if you're going to cook it well done.

I eat my steaks medium & medium rare, even in pregnancy. They hope you avoid food poisoning by cooking things fully. But when I crave red meat I enjoy it, I will not eat a well done steak. So I say enjoy it. No medical degree here, just previous experience!

If it’s a quality cut of meat & probably stored/cook (even just to medium/medium rare) you’re safe! Enjoy that steak!

I have eaten them medium rare throughout both of my pregnancies.. my doctor didn’t have a problem with it. She said you get more iron that way.. when it’s fully cooked the iron gets cooked out

if it was one bite I would say youre fine go for it , but a whole steak ? definitely not. my doctor told me only well done steak
