Soft cervix?

My doctor checked me at my appointment and he said I wasn’t dilated any but my cervix was really soft. What does that mean?

Same thing happen to me at 36 week checkup basically it’s preparing to start opening up. Two weeks later 2cm dilated and 70% effaced

I am pretty sure it’s how you will start dilating. Your cervix needs to soften to be able to open up.

Same at my last two appointments. Except my little girl wasnt even engaged at all at my last appointment (right at 38 weeks)... so body is kinda preparing for labor, but still could have weeks to go.. but it can also change super quick.
