There's not a lot of research on the topic. While smoking does have the potential to negatively impact the baby, such as a low birth weight and pre term birth, there are next to no studies done on other forms of cannabis consumption. For example oil or vaporizing. These forms of consumption do not carry the same effects as actually smoking because there is no burning involved.
THC does cross the placenta and will reach your baby. That is a fact. Prescription drugs, that are often prescribed to pregnant women, such as SSRI's also cross the placenta.  For these drugs research has shown that babies can have negative side effects after birth, such as tremors, irritability and sleeplessness. Paxil has recently changed classes from safe during pregnancy to known to cause birth defects. However, no one will shame a mother for using an SSRI to curb anxiety, but most are quick to do so if she chooses cannabis.
