So my boyfriend and I got into a debate

He (assuming) jokingly asked me to marry him after seeing a diamond ring ad And people were getting proposed to

I jokingly asked “where’s the ring?”

And then became the debate... 🤦🏻‍♀️

So he thinks men shouldn’t have to get their girls a ring because it’s double standard since the girls don’t really give anything (for the engagement)

And I can totally see his point

He would want to just ask me to marry him and I say yes and then us get married at a court house

He doesn’t see the point of having a big ceremony since it’s a day for just us and I can see that too

I personally want an engagement and wedding ring

It doesn’t have to be expensive

I’ve seen some at Walmart for like $35-50

I more or less want the effort of the engagement and the ring

I want to hold on to something special, even if that does sound materialistic

I don’t want to just wake up one day and go “let’s get married next week”

I want the whole experience and I want that with my husband and I want it with my family and his family together

I don’t think it’s just about us I think it should involve close friends and family at least

I would like to see everyone else’s opinions and I would even like to hear about everyone’s engagements, the big wedding and the small ones
