Nitrous Oxide Experiences/info?

Question

With my first pregnancy I went without any medication. I have a new OB and am delivering at a new hospital. I discussed my previous birth experience with my OB and she brought up Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) as on option to me. I have never heard of anyone using this in labor before. Does anyone have any insight or experience that they would be willing to share.

If it’s the same as gas n air that we use in the uk then it’s the safest form or pain relief. But like other person said not everyone find it works. For me however it was AWESOME!!! Loved it! I didn’t need anything else it was enough for me. Made me feel a bit drunk but who doesn’t wanna feel drunk while in that much pain lol

I have read amazing things about it! My birth center is completely natural, which I want. But there are a couple hospitals here in Austin that have started offering it. It's a lower concentration then you would get at the dentist. It has no lasting effects. If you don't like it, you won't feel it im a few min.  You are in complete control of using it. It's a great alternative

Very common everywhere but America. I wish more drs offered it instead of pushing the epidural

I tried this when I was in labor and I was unaware that the mask had to go around your whole mouth and nose. I am claustrophobic so it ended up not working for me because I couldn’t keep the mask on.

I used it for the last hour or so of my labour/ dilating with my daughter. It doesn’t take the pain away but does make it bearable, you just breath through it during the contractions. You can’t use it during pushing but i felt I had enough else going on at that point that the pain of contractions didn’t really get to me too much.

It’s sometimes called gas and air especially in the UK. or entinox is roughly the same thing. Widely used as the first point of medication for women in labour as more often it can be the most effective with the least side effects. However everyone is different and for some women it has no effect, can have side effects like nausea and sickness and dizziness. Very very common.
